I must say it's pleasant when people
your art, but I'd be wrong to call everything that is here art. What I do is one type of art, and one which I've continued to do over the years despite the inactivity of this account. I have decided to take it elsewhere.
What am I talking about?
Here's the deal.
There are millions of users on this thing, and yet I see the same people on the front page over and over again. Glorified, when they shouldn't be. There's a shitload of porn on here, which in my opinion lacks art. Maybe the people doing these don't lack talent, but they lack confidence in doing anything different than what will get them the pageviews.
I should also add that I'm unimpressed by the staff here, who buckle down on people about copyright, and yet are willing to turn their heads away when things like porn are posted under an alias "artistic nude". I don't want to name particulars, but I have my list.
I don't want to be part of this community that glorifies accomplished artists over and over again, giving no chance to rising artists. If dA was fair, there'd be random images on the website, not strategically divided sections that allow the most popular names to get continuous exposure in the POPULAR section. Look at the RECENT, people are uploading a ton of images an hour, which barely gives people a chance to expose themselves if they aren't referred to, or casually found in a search.
I'm sick of the snobbery too. The haughty art students who come here to show off their fan art, to be praised. They don't even bother to reply to comments because they are swamped in them. And yet, people keep posting the comments, keep telling them how great their version 6562 of Axel & Roxas is.
I refuse to be part of this, and have thus decided to take down all my deviations. Do not save these and claim them as your own. I still have copyright on the work I've done, whether or not I make it available online.
That's another thing I'm sick off. The art-thieves, and the people (popular) ones who get all angst about their work being uploaded on photobucket and getting hoards of people that watch them to go pick on people. I find it wrong to steal, but manipulation is even lower. I feel they only mind it because they aren't getting credit for it.
With that said, and since I can't simply cancel my account, I'm removing everything, little by little. Thanks for your support, and if you wish to see what I'm up to in the graphic world, I've got a graphix blog on livejournal. At least until I set things straight.
Also, last but not least, I want to tell those aspiring artists who have been squashed by the same people over and over, don't let it get to you. Move on. There are many other places your art will be valued, and I suggest taking a chance in the real world with it, you might get more out of it than those constantly reloading their dA messages.
Ciao.
